What a bathroom remodel really costs in Charlotte in 2026
Real ranges from our recent projects, what moves the number, and where it's worth spending more.

The short answer
Across the bathrooms we completed in Mecklenburg County over the last twelve months, a hall-bath refresh landed between $14,000 and $24,000, a full down-to-the-studs remodel between $28,000 and $48,000, and primary suites with layout changes from $55,000 to well past $95,000.
Those are wide ranges on purpose. Two bathrooms with the same footprint can differ by $20,000 depending on what's behind the walls and what goes on them.
What actually moves the number
Plumbing location is the biggest lever. Keeping the toilet, shower and vanity where they are is far cheaper than moving them — especially on a slab, where moving a drain means cutting concrete.
Tile is the second. Floor-to-ceiling tile, small mosaics, and patterns like herringbone take more labor than large-format tile run to a sensible height. Glass, cabinetry and countertop choices round out the big lines.
Hidden costs to plan for
Older homes often have rot under tubs and toilets, undersized vent fans, or wiring that doesn't meet code for a wet location. We recommend a 10% contingency and we show you photos before we price any repair.
Permits are usually required for plumbing and electrical work. They're a small line item, but they protect you when you sell.
Where we'd spend — and save
Spend on waterproofing, valves and ventilation: you'll never see them, but they decide whether the bathroom lasts twenty years. Spend on a good vanity with drawers; you'll use it twice a day.
Save with a porcelain tile that looks like stone, a standard-size shower pan, and a frameless-look glass panel instead of a fully custom enclosure.
How we price yours
We visit, measure, look under the floor where we can, and send an itemized proposal with allowances for tile, fixtures and glass. You'll see exactly what each choice costs before you sign anything.
